SOTTO SOTTO REOPENS
Steps Away From Original Yorkville Location
Popular Yorkville restaurant Sotto Sotto has reopened its doors at a new location - just steps from its original Avenue Road storefront that burned down on Christmas Day. It will be located at 120 Avenue Road, two doors north of the original location.
The new restaurant is serving only on weekends while renovations continue. Once renovations are complete, full service will resume. "We would ask that our loyal patrons and guests bear with us through this brief time while we instill the new location with Sotto's warmth and ambiance." "This restaurant is our home," said Marisa Rocca, owner of Sotto Sotto, said in a release.
"While this experience brought heartbreak and challenges, our love of food and serving people gave us the strength we needed to get back on our feet, faster and stronger." The restaurant has not yet provided a date as to when it will partially reopen.
Sotto Sotto opened in 1992 and has become a second home to loyal patrons, including celebrities such as Mariah Carey and Matthew Broderick.
"We saw such incredible support flowing in from our patrons, each extending their love and best wishes to us. They shared their memories of Sotto Sotto with us by letters, phone calls and social media," Rocca said. "It is heartwarming to know that even after leaving their table, they remember their experience with us. This is what gave us the extra energy to come back so quickly."
A fire destroyed the building that housed Sotto Sotto and Spuntini Ristorante on Christmas Day was treated as suspicious, Toronto fire officials said at the time. No one was hurt, but Toronto Fire estimates the fire caused more than $1 million in damage.
